Constitution: Renfrew Collegiate Institute Gay/Straight Alliance

Article I – Club Name
Section 1. The name of this club shall be the Gay/Straight Alliance of Renfrew Collegiate Institute, which may be abbreviated to the Gay/Straight Alliance or simply the GSA.

Article II – Mission
Section 1. The Gay/Straight Alliance's mission is to a) work toward a more accepting environment for all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, through education and awareness, to b) help lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) students accept who they are through outreach and peer support, to c) work to dispel the myths surrounding LGBTQ people, and to d) lead by example to promote the value of tolerance and respect for diversity.

Article III – Purview
Section 1. The Gay/Straight Alliance's main focus is Renfrew Collegiate Institute. However, the GSA considers as its purview the entire Renfrew County community, including, but not limited to, other schools in the Renfrew County District School Board. Its purview may be extended through a consensus decision by the executive.

Article IV – Membership and Inclusiveness
Section 1. Membership is open to all students.

Section 2. The GSA accepts members regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, nation of origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, and disability. Especially, the GSA is intended to be a safe club for LGBTQ members.

Section 3. The GSA strongly encourages the straight allies of LGBTQ youth and adults to join and/or to participate in club activities and projects.

Article V – Projects
Section 1. The GSA shall undertake projects throughout the school year in accordance with its mission.

Section 2. Co-operation with other clubs and groups is encouraged if conducive to the GSA's mission.

Section 3. GSA projects shall be socially responsible, aware of human need internationally. They shall never take priority over more pressing humanitarian concerns.

Article VI – Co-Founders and Executive
Section 1. The co-founders of the Gay/Straight Alliance are (in alphabetical order) Lindsey Bell, Trent Eady, and Hailie Harris.

Section 2. The executive of the Gay/Straight Alliance consists of the following positions (executive at time of writing is listed):

Co-Presidents Lindsey Bell, Hailie Harris
Vice President Trent Eady

[Note: the people holding the positions above have changed since time of writing.]

Section 3. The executive may create new positions as needed. The decision to create positions must be reached by a consensus of the executive.

Article VIIAmendments to the Constitution
Section 1. This constitution can be amended with both a) consensus of the executive and b) a minimum two-thirds vote of the club's members.

Note on constitution versions: every amendment (i.e. any edit) to the constitution means adding 1 to the version number. For example, if there is an amendment to constitution version #1, the post-amendment constitution is version #2. (If you amend the constitution, you should add your name to the bottom, preceded by "Amended by".) The constitution was edited before version #1, but it is called "version #1" regardless because it was the first version to be approved and signed by school administration (and to be published online).
